Season Schedule
The season is scheduled to begin in April, weather permitting and based on coach availability. An initial schedule for the first week may be posted early, with the full schedule released once finalized. Games are typically held on weekday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Any rainouts will be rescheduled for Mondays or Sundays. Please be sure to check our website and Facebook pages regularly for updates.
Rainouts & Weather Updates
Rainout information will be posted on the HYAL website homepage, as well as on our Facebook Public Page and Private Group.
Coaches Needed
We are always looking for volunteer coaches. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to help and support our players. Volunteers are essential to the success of our program.
Player Drafts
Player drafts are mandatory for the Minors and Majors divisions.
Practices
Practice schedules are set by each coach following the draft. Coaches will contact parents within one week of the draft with details. Practices are held at local schools and township fields; no practices will take place at the HYAL fields or complex. When available, coaches may use the HYAL batting cages. Helmets are required by all players, parents, and coaches in the batting tunnels, and use is at your own risk.
Game Locations
Most games will be played at the HYAL Complex, located at 94 Hazlet Avenue.
• Mueller, Coutu, and Hildner Fields (T-Ball): Please park on Van Mater and observe posted no-parking zones for emergency vehicle access.
• Lind Field and the Top 60 Softball Field: Please use the Hazlet Train Station parking lot.
Some inter-league games may take place at other locations; addresses can be found on our website.
Team Placement
While we do our best to accommodate coach and ride-share requests, placement cannot be guaranteed. Siblings in the same division will always be placed on the same team.
Uniforms
HYAL provides a hat and jersey for Baseball and T-Ball players, and a jersey and socks for Softball players.
Our Philosophy
HYAL (est. 1957) and MBSA (est. 2020) share a common goal: to teach sportsmanship, teamwork, confidence, and discipline. We are committed to helping children grow through a safe, supportive, and positive sports environment.
Contacting Us
Please do not post questions on social media. You can reply to this email and your question will be directed to the appropriate board member. Contact information for Commissioners and Board Members can be found on our website at www.HYALhawks.com.
Required Equipment
Mandatory items include a glove, bat, and helmet.
• Boys must wear an athletic supporter and cup.
• Girls must wear a face guard and a chest protector under their shirt.
• Cleats are recommended for all levels of play, but not required for T-Ball.
Optional items include baseball/softball pants or shorts (grey preferred), batting gloves, and a backpack. Please label all equipment with your child’s name and a phone number using a black permanent marker. If your child has any allergies, notify the coach to avoid equipment co-mingling.
Get Involved!
HYAL Membership Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month, both in person and via Zoom. Please check the website calendar for details. These meetings are a great opportunity to hear league updates, ask questions, and share feedback.
We also value your input! Please take a few minutes and click HYAL Baseball & Softball – Pre-Season Parent Survey to complete our Parent Feedback Survey. Your feedback helps us improve the experience for all of our players and families. Volunteers are always welcome—many hands truly make light work!
We look forward to a fantastic season and appreciate your continued support of our program.
Let’s play ball!
