Scholarship Overview - 2024

Program Guidelines:

Dear Raritan High School Senior,

Hazlet Youth Athletic League (“HYAL”) is pleased to offer an opportunity to receive a one-time $500 scholarship for having participated in HYAL sports and for having received a Varsity sports letter from Raritan High School. If you are interested in one of the seven sports scholarship offered, here's all you have to do. First, you need to get a copy of the HYAL application from your Guidance Counselor at RHS. Next, you must file your completed application no later than 8:00 am on the date determined by the Guidance Office in this, your senior year at Raritan High School. Your completed application must be returned to:

Guidance Office, Raritan High School -- There are no exceptions to this deadline rule.

For you to be considered an HYAL Sports scholarship applicant, all of the following qualifications must have been attained:

  • You must have been a participant in any combination of HYAL sports for at least five (5) seasons prior to becoming a senior in high school.
  • You must maintain a minimum of a 2.75 GPA over the course of your career at Raritan High School – applicant must provide their GPA with their application.
  • You must have displayed a history of HYAL involvement, community involvement and volunteer work.
  • Strength and uniqueness of your completed "What impact did HYAL have on my life" essay which applicant must submit with their application.
  • You must be a graduating senior and have received a varsity letter in your junior or senior year at Raritan in one of these sports and the applicant must verify that they received a varsity letter and the ONE sport that they are applying for:
  1.        Baseball
  2.        Basketball Boys
  3.        Basketball Girls
  4.        Cheerleading
  5.        Football
  6.        Softball
  7.        Wrestling

       Note: As a point of clarification, you may only apply for one of the seven sports scholarships listed above. Varsity sport managers, score keepers and book keepers who have received a varsity letter in any of these sports also fulfill the HYAL sports scholarship eligibility requirements.

All applicants for the HYAL Sports Scholarship will be considered for an eighth scholarship - The William Mueller Scholarship.

"The William Mueller" scholastic scholarship is a $500 scholarships for graduating Raritan high school senior. Applicant must have been a participant in any combination of HYAL sports for at least five (5) seasons prior to becoming a senior in high school.

o   You must maintained a minimum of a 2.75 GPA over the course of your career at Raritan High School and applicant must provide their GPA with their application.
o   You must have displayed a history of HYAL involvement, community involvement and volunteer work.
o   Strength and uniqueness of your completed "What impact did HYAL have on my life" essay.
o   You must be a graduating senior and have received a varsity letter in your junior or senior year at Raritan and confirm what sport you received a varsity letter in.

You must plan on attending an accredited two, or four-year college, or trade school. You must start the college or trade school in the Fall Semester after you have graduated from Raritan High School. The HYAL scholarship will be a one-time award of up to a maximum of $500 in any of the seven sports noted above. HYAL not only reserves the right to limit the number of scholarships bestowed each year, but may also cancel these scholarships at any time.

If a winner fails to attend the college or trade school in the Fall semester following your graduation from Raritan High School, any monies received from the HYAL scholarship must be returned to HYAL by September 30th of that same year. The scholarship winners will be determined by anonymous votes by the HYAL Scholarship Committee. The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final. No substitutions will be offered. Unclaimed scholarships will be forfeited.
