HYAL Sports Scholarship Program
For Raritan High School Seniors
Hazlet Youth Athletic League (HYAL) is proud to offer a one-time $500 scholarship to eligible Raritan High School seniors who have participated in HYAL sports and earned a varsity letter in high school. A total of eight scholarships are available — seven sport-specific awards plus one additional award, the William Mueller Scholarship.
How to Apply
- Obtain the HYAL Scholarship Application from your Raritan High School Guidance Counselor.
- Submit your completed application directly to the RHS Guidance Office by 8:00 AM on the deadline date set by the Guidance Office.
- No late submissions will be accepted.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for an HYAL Sports Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a graduating senior from Raritan High School.
- Have participated in at least five (5) HYAL sports seasons in any combination before your senior year.
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 throughout high school (GPA must be included with your application).
- Demonstrate a history of HYAL involvement, community service, and volunteer work.
- Submit a personal essay titled:
"What Impact Did HYAL Have on My Life",
showing strength, thoughtfulness, and uniqueness. - Have earned a varsity letter in your junior or senior year in one of the following sports:
- Baseball
- Boys Basketball
- Girls Basketball
- Cheerleading
- Football
- Softball
- Wrestling (Boys/Girls)
- Applicants must clearly specify on their application which of the seven sports scholarships they are applying for.
Note: You may apply for only one of the sports scholarships listed above.
Varsity sport managers, scorekeepers, and bookkeepers who received a varsity letter in one of these sports are also eligible to apply.
- All applicants will automatically be considered for the eighth scholarship, the William Mueller Scholarship, which will be awarded to the best overall applicant. This scholarship honors William Mueller, one of the late founding members of HYAL, and is based on the same eligibility criteria, open to all qualified applicants regardless of the sport they apply for.
Additional Requirements for All Scholarships
- You must plan to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college, or trade school, beginning in the fall semester following graduation from Raritan High School.
- Scholarships are a one-time award of up to $500.
- HYAL reserves the right to limit the number of scholarships awarded each year or cancel scholarships if no eligible applicants apply.
- If a scholarship recipient does not attend college or trade school in the fall semester after graduation, the scholarship funds must be returned to HYAL by September 30th of the same year.
Selection and Award Process
- Scholarship winners are chosen by anonymous vote of the HYAL Scholarship Committee.
- All decisions by the committee are final.
- Unclaimed scholarships will be forfeited with no substitutions offered.
